Exclusive: DreamWorks Animation is making cuts and cutting four percent of its staff. We understand that the reductions are due to a downward cyclical shift in business, higher production costs and strikes.
“DreamWorks Animation has reduced its workforce by approximately 70 positions,” a DWA spokesperson told Deadline in a statement. “The roles affected were across company functions, features, TV and technology divisions as part of the overall cost reduction.”
The hope is that the studio can turn things around by releasing the third installment Trolls Movie franchise. Earlier this year, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix partnered for this Orion and the darkness, an animated feature written by Charlie Kaufman. The feature is scheduled to hit the streamer in 2024. It is directed by Sean Charmatz, and produced by Peter McCown. Executive producers are Walt Dorn and Bonnie Arnold. The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay as Orion and Paul Walter Hauser as Darhk.
