Dolphins WR Daewood Davis leaves the game on a cart in the fourth quarter, resulting in a suspension for the remainder of the contest.

Miami Dolphins rookie receiver David Davis has been discharged from the hospital after spending the night at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., and has been placed into the NFL’s concussion protocol, Coach Mike McDaniel said Sunday.

Davis was taken off the field on a spine board after sustaining a blow to the head during the Dolphins’ pre-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday but was conscious and able to move all of his limbs.

McDaniel said Davis will continue to monitor.

“He’s in better shape than last night in terms of strength and stuff,” McDaniel said. “As I said last night, there were certain things we were worried about that were avoided… There are certainly a lot of guys who are very happy and relieved to see him.”

Several Dolphins players were injured during a Saturday night game. Defensive back Elijah Campbell, who had been a challenging starting safety, suffered a knee injury and was hauled to the locker room on a cart. McDaniel said Campbell avoided rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament but still suffered “a major injury that will take him into the season”.

Running back Salvon Ahmed was taken to the locker room and assessed for a concussion. It passed the test but it still counts day in and day out. McDaniel said quarterback Mike White removed concussion protocol on Friday after spending most of the week progressing through it.

White and 2022 seventh-round draft pick Skylar Thompson competed for the Dolphins’ backup quarterback job, but McDaniel said he won’t publicly announce the winner until the players are notified.
