ROTTERDAM (Reuters) – Several people were killed on Thursday by a gunman who opened fire in a university classroom in the Dutch coastal city of Rotterdam and in a nearby house, police said.
A 32-year-old suspect was arrested after police said on social media that shots were fired at the Rotterdam Medical Center and a house. They also added that fires broke out at both locations.
It is not clear how many people were injured at each location.
Videos posted online showed police ordering the students, some wearing medical gowns, to run outside as heavily armed arrest teams arrived at the scene. One video showed a man handcuffed and wearing what appeared to be camouflage pants.
Two hours later, police said that several deaths had occurred and that the families of the victims had been notified.
Police said there were no signs of a second shooter. A press conference is scheduled for local officials.
