Celine Dion reveals more health news that will affect her world tour dates.
The singer said she had stiff person syndrome In an emotional Instagram video Thursday Adding that the symptoms are what caused her severe muscle spasms in the past.
“The spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when walking and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I used to,” Dion said. “I have to admit it was a struggle. All I know is to sing, and that’s what I’ve done my whole life.”
Stiff person syndrome, or SPS, is a disease that causes “progressive muscle stiffness and painful spasms” triggered by environmental factors such as “sudden movement, cold temperature, or an unexpected loud noise.” According to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The disease is rare and affects only one in a million people.
Dion added that the diagnosis means the European leg of her tour will not be able to restart in February. Shows scheduled for the spring postponed until 2024, While the shows she had planned for the summer were cancelled.
“I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better,” Dion said. “I work with my sports medicine therapist every day to rebuild my strength and ability to perform again.”

The French-Canadian singer canceled the North American leg of her “Courage World Tour” in January due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms”. The North American leg of the tour was initially postponed due to the pandemic.

Her Las Vegas residency in October 2021 was canceled after the “My Heart Will Go On” singer said cramps were affecting her training.
Dion’s return to Las Vegas was seen as a comeback for the singer, who changed the landscape of music residency culture in the city with the 2003 debut of “A New Day…” at the specially designed Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
Carrie Underwood opened the 5,000-capacity theater for Dionne in December 2021 with her show Reflection – Las Vegas Residency.
