Car drives into crowd in Stettin – 17 injured

A man reportedly drove his car into a crowd in Stettin. Polish media reported several injuries.

At least 17 people were injured when a driver drove into a crowd in Szczecin, Poland. Two of the injured are in critical condition. Provincial Governor Adam Rudowski confirmed this. The Polish media also unanimously reported on the accident. Videos and pictures circulating on social media X show injured people on the ground and distraught bystanders.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper, the car is said to be a Ford. The vehicle veered into a pedestrian crossing. Many flew into the air. According to the governor, the driver initially fled but was apprehended a short time later. The background of this incident is not known at first. The accident took place at the Black Roadla traffic junction. After the car rammed into people, the suspected offender drove off and crashed into three other vehicles.

A spokesman for the Szczecin city police headquarters said the driver was a 33-year-old, Radio Szczecin reported. “Contrary to what is already widely believed in social media, I want to assure you that this is not a terrorist attack,” he added, according to Polish news portal onet.pl.

A picture is said to show the accused in a completely destroyed car. Gazeta Wyborcza reports that Plac Rodła is one of the main centers in Szczecin.
