British crime writer whose crime role is the subject of Heavenly Creatures was 84 – Deadline

Anne Perry, whose role in Murder was spotlighted in the 1994 Peter Jackson film, Heavenly creaturesAnd He died at the age of 84.

Her agent, Meg Davis, confirmed that Berry died in a Los Angeles hospital. Davis said she had been on a steady decline since suffering a heart attack in December.

The author spent five years in prison from the age of 15 for beating the mother of her best friend, Hunoah Mary Parker. Known then as Juliette Holm, she later used a pseudonym for her writing career. The crime took place in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1954, and the two friends were plotting the murder. Details were later discovered in journals found by the police.

Perry’s first novel, The Cater Street Hangman, arrived in 1979. It was the start of a career that saw the production of over 100 Ethan mysteries and thrillers, selling over 26 million copies worldwide. She was awarded an Edgar Award in 2000, and named “100 Masters of Crime” by the Times of London.

The 1994 drama Jackson stars Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey (both making their feature film debuts) as teenage killers. The film explored the relationship between the two teens, culminating in a murder in 1954.

The film won the Silver Lion at the 1994 Venice International Film Festival. It was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
