A woman was killed and several skiers were injured in avalanche accidents in various parts of the Alps over the weekend. For example, a British couple were walking with a mountain guide on Mont Blanc in the French Alps when an avalanche occurred. The 45-year-old woman was buried in snow, broadcaster France 3 reported, citing the gendarmerie.

Rescuers tried but could not save the woman, the report said. Her partner and mountain guide were unhurt. The accident happened on the Argentiere glacier on Saturday afternoon. The gendarmerie launched an investigation into the exact course of events.

An avalanche accident occurred near Lech in Austria: ten skiers were swept away by an avalanche, three of whom were injured. Two of the winter athletes suffered serious injuries, the Vorarlberg state police headquarters said.

A group of ten headed towards Juppenspitze with a 33-year-old ski guide. Suddenly, the skis carried away ten of the skiers. Three athletes managed to get out of the avalanche, others were not buried by small amounts of snow – some were wearing special backpacks with avalanche airbags. At Christmas there was an avalanche very close to Arlberg – four people were injured.
