Austria: Swift concerts canceled – authorities report third arrest

The investigation into plans to attack Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna is still in full swing. Now another person has come to the attention of the investigating officers. An 18-year-old Iraqi man was arrested.

Another person arrested after Taylor Swift concert canceled in Vienna Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Garner (ÖVP) said it was an 18-year-old from Iraq. The suspect swore allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (IS). Garner said he was around the 19-year-old prime suspect. However, it was said that directly engaging in offensive plans was not an option.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested pre-trial detention against the two arrested terror suspects. The Wiener Neustadt Regional Court is expected to decide later in the afternoon whether to impose pre-trial detention.

Suspects are being investigated for membership of terrorist group and criminal organization. They are accused of having links to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist network and representing their goals and objectives, a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office told Austrian news agency APA.

According to the investigation, 19-year-old American superstar Taylor Swift wanted to carry out the attack in front of the stadium where she was scheduled to perform in front of more than 60,000 spectators. Three of your Vienna concerts this week were canceled for security reasons. Tens of thousands of Swift fans were deeply disappointed.

The second person arrested is 17 years old. He was a stagehand and scaffolder at the arena for the Swift concert. He and the 19-year-old are friends. A 15-year-old boy was questioned as a witness and was not arrested. He allegedly accused the 19-year-old.
