On the way to the Black Sea, the occupied city of Dokmok is a stopover for Ukrainian troops. So the Russian military is largely defending the city – but not only against the enemy: according to British reports, the Russian anti-aircraft defense system shot down one of its own fighter jets.

According to a British assessment, Russian anti-aircraft defenses accidentally shot down one of its own fighter jets near the occupied town of Dokmok in southern Ukraine. Dokmok, a strategically important city in the Zaporizhia region, is heavily guarded. Russian command posts are often stationed there, commanding one of the busiest sections of the front.

“These headquarters are normally protected by special short and medium air defense systems,” it said in London. These will be “on high alert” as Ukraine continues to conduct effective strikes against such sites.

Since the start of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine in February 2022, the British Ministry of Defense has been publishing daily information on the progress of the war. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
