Annalena Baerbach (Green)’s trip to the Gulf region was delayed due to a plane breakdown. The Union Minister of External Affairs was scheduled to leave for Saudi Arabia at 7.30 am on Monday.
According to delegation sources, the Bundeswehr had to postpone the take-off by an hour and a half due to a technical problem with the flight scheduled for flight readiness. First, an alternate flight must be arranged.
︎ In Saudi Arabia, Beerbock wanted to meet with Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Monday afternoon in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah.
During his three-day visit to the Gulf region, Beyerbach wants to promote peace solutions in Yemen and Sudan. “The right first step is for Saudi Arabia to now focus on talks with the Houthis in Yemen,” he said before leaving.
The Minister of External Affairs announced that he would also like to talk about human rights. A dialogue involves “seeing each other in the eye on issues where we are far apart.” Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been criticized internationally for human rights abuses.
︎ On Tuesday, Berbaugh wanted to meet Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak in Jeddah and also talk to Yemen’s UN coordinator David Gresley.
