There may be a bug reference set of AMD Radeon 7900 GPUs

Igor Walusek provided a brief update on Der8auer’s findings.

Reminder, Dear 8 posted a video recently Focusing on issues with thermal throttling of the AMD Radeon 7900 reference card. Although he hasn’t given a full explanation yet, he claims that it’s very likely that a faulty vapor chamber is the main reason behind the GPU hotspot issues and as a result, heat suffocation

Igor reflects today by sharing a note from a board partner. It is reported that the undisclosed OEM suspects that at least one defective batch of the Radeon 7900 series may have left the factory. The potential problem being described is insufficient coolant added to the vapor chamber.

Igor doesn’t want to spoil der8auer’s new results, so the catch is that the YouTuber shares a new video tomorrow that will give us more information.

For those affected, it is too early to tell if these claims are true. Even in the case of a faulty batch of reference Radeon 7900 cards, it’s not clear how many cards have been made and where they’ve been sent yet.
