An Amazon driver is in “extremely serious condition” after a rattlesnake bite in Florida

A woman delivering packages for Amazon was seriously injured when she was bitten by a rattlesnake at a home in Palm City, Florida, authorities said.

“The snake bite victim was transported to the hospital where she is in very serious condition,” the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.

An eastern diamondback rattlesnake was curled up near the front door of the location and struck when the driver dropped off the package Monday, the office said.

She added that the worker, whose identity was not revealed, was bitten in the back of his leg, just above the knee. “She became ill immediately,” the sheriff’s office said.

She called 911, and dispatchers used her cellphone’s GPS coordinates to find her, the sheriff’s office said.

The Sheriff’s Department described the eastern diamondback rattlesnake as “highly venomous” and widespread in the area.

In a written statement Wednesday, an Amazon spokesperson Branden Baribeau said the company and its delivery service partner are looking into what happened.

“Our thoughts are with the driver and we hope for a full recovery after this terrifying accident,” Baribeau said.
