Orban doesn’t want to make a decision until after the US election, which is three weeks from now. If former US President Donald Trump, a confidant of the Hungarian president, returns to the White House, he may sharply cut aid to Ukraine. Trump has repeatedly said that if he wins the election, he will quickly end the war in Ukraine.

Ahead of the EU summit, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also criticized the EU. Fico said it was acting as a “war cabinet” and undermining the peace process in Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian newspaper report.
