Google’s Pixel phones haven’t been able to hold their own against the competition when it comes to using the latest and greatest specs, but the company has been stepping up its efforts in certain areas. Following the appearance of “Actua” displays on the Pixel 8 series, Google is reportedly looking to use the same Samsung OLED display on the Pixel 9 series that Apple will use on the iPhone 16 Pro.

The Pixel 8 series saw Google leap from being behind in display quality to offering what was briefly the best smartphone display on the US market, thanks to Samsung’s OLED display, which delivered excellent brightness and color.

According to a new report, Google will once again turn to Samsung for its displays.

ET News Reports Google is reportedly going to use an updated OLED display from Samsung, the M14. The new display is said to be brighter and have a longer lifespan. According to the report, Google will use this new generation of OLED display in the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

But one thing to note is that Google won’t be alone here. The iPhone 16 Pro lineup is also expected to use the same new display. Apple has been using Samsung’s high-end displays in its “Pro” iPhones for the past two years, with the “M12” used in previous iterations. The same generation will still be used in the base iPhone 16 models, but the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will use the “M14” like the Pixel.

Google is set to launch the Pixel 9 series on August 13, ahead of the company’s scheduled schedule. Meanwhile, Apple is still expected to launch new iPhones in September.
