Jackson Lake Island, a private island in Elmore County, Alabama that is home to the fictional movie “Spectre Town,” announced the structural damage in a Facebook post Monday. The town is not regularly inhabited outside of the goat community, and serves as a regular tourist attraction thereafter
We lost a house in Specter Town tonight after a lightning strike. reads the post. “All the goats were safely under the church. Thank you Millbrook Fire Department.”
On Tuesday, and The island has been confirmed to be open. “It’s the morning after we lost one of our Spectre homes to gunfire,” reads the Fourth of July article. “The rest of the city is fine, and we will be open every day as normal.”
Spectre is the town of Ewan McGregor that Edward Bloom finds inside a haunted forest. The “town” was built specifically for the film, and includes a number of houses, a church, and an overhead wire from which shoes hang. Upon his return to the town years later, Bloom finds that the attractive community has fallen into disrepair.
After filming ended, Specter was abandoned before being renovated as a tourist attraction. The now privately owned island, which was purchased by former Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright and retired judge Lynn Bright in 2015, spans about 60 acres and is open to the public who can camp, picnic, fish and more in the area.
