Mario Kart 8 Deluxe users will be able to play upcoming Booster Course tracks online or with friends, even if they don’t pay for the DLC themselves.
The new tracks, the first eight of which will be released on March 18, will be changing into the Mario Kart 8 online pool of courses on March 22, meaning even players who don’t own them can sometimes go for them. However, there will be 56 paths in the game after that first wave, so players will initially only have a one in seven chance of discovering a new path through a random selection.
A more consistent way to play without paying is through a friend, Nintendo also revealed His website (for every Nintendo Live) Groups of friends can play the new tracks together starting March 18th even if only one player owns a Booster Course Pass. This can be done in local or online play.
It’s a great way to prevent a public split between those who paid and those who didn’t, while giving more choices to those who paid.
The DLC costs $24.99 (£22.49) and will add 48 tracks to Mario Kart 8, all of which are remastered versions of the courses featured in previous games. They will be released in six separate waves between March of this year and the end of 2023.
Round one of the tracks includes the Golden Dash Cup and the Lucky Cat Cup, with the following eight singles tournaments:
- Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour)
- Frog Arena (Mario Kart 3DS)
- Mount Choco (Mario Kart 64)
- Coconut Hall (Mario Kart-Wee)
- Tokyo Blore (Mario Kart Tour)
- Shroom Ridge (Mario Kart DS)
- Sky Garden (Mario Kart Advance)
- Sanctuary of the Ninja (Mario Kart Tour)
Nintendo announced DLC for the five-year-old Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Direct last week. With the addition of new tracks, the game will contain more than half of the courses ever made for the Mario Kart series.
IGN said Mario Kart 8 is “amazing”, “the best entry in the series so far, and has all the content you need.” We obviously said this before we knew we needed More tracks.
