Yellowstone ends with the fifth season, Matthew McConaughey stars in the sequel

Kevin Costner won’t get a chance to leave Yellowstone Because the series is coming to an end instead. Shortly after reports that Costner had left the series, Paramount announced that the series would end after its fifth season, which would have been Costner’s last. But nothing could stop the Dutton family’s ranching empire, so Paramount also announced a sequel series with Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star.



first half of YellowstoneDubbed Part 1, Season 5 has just been released, but Part 2 is where the series ran into trouble. The second part of the season has not yet finished filming, in part due to a falling out between Costner and series co-creator Taylor Sheridan. This could be a boon in disguise for Sheridan and Paramount, who can now use the back half of the season to steer the show toward its conclusion and prepare for the sequel.

Paramount has not yet announced what YellowstoneThe sequel series will actually be about.

Dutton’s story continues, and picks up where Yellowstone Leaves in another epic story. “We are thrilled to bring this new ride to audiences around the world,” said David Glaser, CEO of 101 Studios (the production studio behind the show), in a press release.

According to a report from Delivery timePlans for a sequel are still in flux, including whether or not the follow-up series will bring back the main cast — minus Costner, of course — and if so, what those plans are. It also hasn’t been determined if McConaughey will actually star in the new series, though Deadline reports that he’s been in talks with Paramount since February and those talks are still ongoing.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 has no official release date yet. Nor is Paramount’s newly announced sequel.
