Ahead of the much-anticipated launch of the Xbox One X console, Xbox head Phil Spencer suggests that not everybody needs to upgrade to the scaled-up version of the original Xbox One. In addition, he also stated that the Xbox One S will be their top-selling console because its affordable, and also has the ability to run all games.
“Xbox One S will be the market leader for us. It’s the more affordable console. It plays all the same games. It will be the console that sells. Whether you’re on a 1080p TV or a 4K TV, you’re going to have a great experience”, Spencer told in a statement to Gamespot.
He then goes on to compare Xbox One S with the Xbox One Elite controller which was primarily targeted at pro gamers. However, despite Microsoft’s predictions, the Xbox One Elite controller became rather popular among casual as well as hardcore gamers. Finally, he spoke about the upcoming Xbox One X console and promised that it’ll offer a fantastic experience for gamers.
We want to give them the very best experience. I’ve played games in true 4K with HDR, and they look fantastic. But it doesn’t mean everybody has to do that. So we’re giving gamers a choice. Whether we’ve pushed the innovation too far? It’s hard to do that with gamers. I guess we’ll see; I feel very confident in the product we have coming to market,” adds Spencer.
Priced at $499, the upcoming Xbox One X is said to offer 30 percent faster processing bundled with a GPU that is nearly 5x more powerful than the original Xbox One. The console is Microsoft’s answer to the PlayStation Pro.
The Xbox One X is essentially a scaled-up version of the original Xbox One. It can run games in 4K resolution. features 12GB GDDR5 RAM with 9GB specifically devoted to games. Under the hood, it has eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz CUP and 40 customised GPU compute units at 1,172 MHz. The console is now open for pre-order while shipping begins on November 7.
