After the Jets traded for receiver Davante Adams, one source noted that owner Woody Johnson is “Designed to create an impression He made the right decision to dismiss coach Robert Saleh.” We suggested that the next step, in order to make Saleh’s move look like the right one, would be to bring holding back defensive end Haason Reddick back into the fold.

It’s no surprise, then, that Woody is heavily involved in the effort to get the Riddick deal done, according to a source familiar with the situation.

It’s clear that Woody’s overall goal is to win. More specifically, he needs to show he was right — especially with influential voices like Bill Belichick accusing him of “Ready, fire, aim“Directions.

The Jets have already lost their first game after Saleh. They will have Adams in the fold as they try to beat the Steelers on Sunday night. Reddick will be available for the Jets’ second short shift of 2024: at New England on Sunday and then at home against the Texans on Thursday night.

With five losses, the Jets are getting closer and closer to having too many players to make the playoffs. With seven points per conference and 17 games played, 9-8 seems to be the minimum.

With 10 games remaining, can they go 7-3? We’ll find out tonight whether, with nine games remaining, they will have to go 6-3 or 7-2.

Either way, Redick will be back for the final nine. Since Woody was so involved in getting it done, expect him to be involved the rest of the way. Especially with 16 days left in the trading period.
