In the Part 1 finale, most of the crew – with the exception of JJ and Kiara – head to Charleston in search of the Blue Crown. However, they are not the only ones doing the stalking; Lightner and his boss Dahlia are also lurking in the shadows trying to find clues.
Bob and Sarah volunteer to go to the catacombs, but Lightner and Dahlia reach the tombs first and steal a scroll hidden there. While the villains manage to escape, Bob and Sarah aren’t so lucky; The last time viewers see them in Part 1, they are trapped underground while the basement fills with floodwaters caused by a nasty storm blowing overhead.
Meanwhile, Cleo and John B are unable to stop Lightner and Dahlia as they emerge from the tombs. John B experiences flashbacks of his late father killing Singh’s men, which happened while he was trying to shoot Lightner.
Back at OBX, JJ is having a profound moment with his estranged father, Luke. In Episode 2, Wes Genrette writes a letter addressed to “Master JJ Maybank”, advising JJ to ask his father what “Albatross” means in case something bad happens.
When pressed by JJ on the meaning of the word, Luke reveals to JJ that “Albatross” is the name of the boat that Larissa Genrette died on years ago. He also reveals that he is not JJ’s biological father and that the woman JJ believed was his mother was just one of Luke’s girlfriends.
So, what does all this mean? This means that Larissa is actually JJ’s biological mother, making Wes his grandfather and Chandler Grove his biological father. Basically, JJ is one of the things he hates the most – which is Kook.
Additionally, JJ’s alleged father made a surprise appearance at the end of Episode 5 alongside Hollis Robinson. He appears to be working closely with a local realtor, who has been trying to buy Genrette’s land with the support of Rafe Cameron throughout Part One.
