Verstappen leads Ferrari duo in last French Grand Prix practice | Formula 1®

Max Verstappen set the fastest FP3 lap in France with a late streak of soft tyres, keeping Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at bay.

Verstappen held first place for most of the session thanks to his early average benchmark of 1m 32.808s. While the Dutchman was out a few minutes later on FP3, Leclerc and Sainz were out after 15 minutes, Leclerc was out on solid tires for eight laps (Turn 12 cycle shortened his ride) while Sainz was out on a lap on soft.

Neither of them could match Verstappen or lose until grip and temperatures escalated at the end of FP3, when Sainz climbed into the lead by 1m 32.626s. However, at the time, Verstappen opted to switch from medium to soft materials, and was back on top with a solid 1m 32.272sec.

Lewis Hamilton had a P4 in FP3, a Mercedes driver who runs a different rear wing than his teammate. The soft-tire races saw Hamilton finish 0.983 seconds off Verstappen’s pace, while Sergio Perez was trailing in fifth after executing the same medium-smooth sprint scheme as the other Red Bull champ.
