Ukrainian President’s Speech at the UN It is being billed as one of the highlights of this year’s public debate in the General Assembly – and comes after the Kremlin ordered a partial Russian mobilization. Zelensky calls on the world to punish Russia severely.

In a public debate at the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for severe punishment and isolation of Russia. In his eagerly awaited speech via video link, the U.N. Zelensky demanded that Moscow withdraw its veto rights in the Security Council.

Aggressors must be held accountable and abstain from international decisions. “A crime was committed against Ukraine, and we demand a fair punishment,” Zelensky said.

As part of the punishment, Russia will be deprived of voting rights in international organizations and veto rights as one of the five permanent members of the Security Council.

“Russia Loves War”

Zelenskiy also addressed the partial mobilization in Russia announced by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. This is evidence that Moscow is not serious about peace talks.

Russian talk of negotiations is a delaying tactic. Moscow’s actions speak louder than words. “They talk about negotiations, but announce military mobilization. They talk about talks, but announce fake arbitration in the occupied territories of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.

Moscow wants to prepare its troops in Ukraine for a new offensive in the winter, or at least prepare defense systems when more troops are mobilized. “Russia loves war. That’s true. But Russia cannot stop the course of history,” the Ukrainian leader said. Humanity and international law are stronger than the “terrorist state” Russia.

Selenskyj demands more arms supplies

Zelensky reiterated that his country needed more weapons. Ukraine will succeed in repelling the Russian offensive and withdrawing its forces. “We can return the Ukrainian flag to our entire territory. We can do it by force of arms. But we need time.”

For his speech, Zelensky was granted special permission to attend a public debate at the UN General Assembly from his country, which was attacked by Russia.
