Ukraine’s foreign minister criticizes Oscars: Zelenskyy’s “hypocrisy” uninvited | Politics

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba (41) has strongly criticized the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45) was not allowed to speak at the Oscars.

Kuleba told BILD am SONNTAG: “If ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ wins the Oscar for best foreign film, the belligerent President Zelensky is leading the country, waging the biggest war in Europe since World War II. Speaking at the Oscar ceremony, he criticized the hypocrisy of the main executives and producers of the film world. You won’t find a better example than this.

Kuleba continued BILD am SONNTAG:

“Absurd is not enough to describe this hypocrisy. I am not questioning the quality of the film. I’m telling you people, you’re going to give an award for a movie about war, and when you’re drinking champagne and wearing beautiful dresses and diamonds, you don’t realize that other people don’t want to hear a real war story. , happening here and now, then there is something wrong with you.

What Kuleba thinks: If the Oscars are celebrated with glamor and the anti-war film “Nothing New in the West” may even be presented, one should not ignore the horrors of the current war in Ukraine. Because it’s fake.

Speculations such as whether skin color matters

The Academy of Oscars earlier rejected Selenskyj’s appearance at the ceremony – just like the previous year. This creates excitement and debate. There has been speculation about why the president was not wanted at the Oscars — whether skin color played a role.

Oscar producer Will Packer (48) had already rejected Selensky’s appearance as Portal. “Miscellaneous” reported. Packer reportedly expressed concern that the war of aggression against Ukraine was attracting attention only in Hollywood because the victims were white. Other wars and conflicts with non-white victims will be ignored. According to “Variety”, Packer did not want to comment on the portal. However, it is “not clear” what is actually behind the rejection.
