Ukraine News: Fierce fighting on border, drone strikes on Kiev

According to Ukrainian reports, seven people were killed in Russian airstrikes in Ukraine. Four adults and a child were killed in the city of Dnipro, the local governor said. Another 20 people were injured in the attack that night. Many buildings were damaged due to this.

Two more people were killed in the capital Kyiv and the region, according to local authorities. A teenage girl was killed in a Russian drone strike.

Six inmates have escaped from a prison in the Lipetsk region of western Russia. “At the moment, all security forces are looking for them; an interactive team is working,” Governor Igor Artamonov wrote on his Telegram channel. He asked people to remain calm. It is understandable that news of a prisoner break-in would cause unrest, but he asked not to panic.

Lots of fake news. “The information war continues and the Ukrainian armed forces do not miss an opportunity to exploit the situation,” he wrote. He later said two fugitives were arrested in the neighboring Tambov region.

Heavy fighting took place between the Ukrainian and Russian troops in Kursk, a region bordering Russia. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the Russian Air Force dropped at least 24 cruise missiles on Ukrainian positions last day. The Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Chirsky, firmly rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim that Ukrainian forces were encircled on the Russian border. “This is blatant misinformation that does not reflect the real situation,” Sirskij said on Telegram.

Putin, on the other hand, confirmed in an interview with state broadcaster Rossiya 24 that some 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers were trapped in an area between 6 and 15 kilometers. According to Putin, the “round ring” was consolidated and “squeezed.” Ukrainian efforts to free the trapped units have so far failed.
