The Tribeca Festival dropped “film” from its official title a few years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer a film market. While everyone else is still nursing the effects of a Cannes-induced hangover, the industry should rally for the festival that Robert De Niro co-founded — a motley ensemble of actors-turned-directors for 11 days, and an extraordinary amount of film. Music documentaries, new indie fares are bowing at AMC just north of Tribeca in the Flatiron District, and hopefully ushering in Nicole Kidman’s iconic spot.
Be on the lookout for distributors who will be picking noisy movies like directed by Michael Shannon Eric LaRuestarring Judy Greer and Alexander Skarsgård, or the family drama led by Nick Jonas the good halfBoth garnered acclaim after their world premiere in Manhattan. First time managerdirected by first-time director Chelsea Peretti Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame, is now basking as the first major title sold in Tribeca.
