The success of Super Marios Bros. Sales of the Nintendo game series skyrocketed across the board, especially those featuring the red plumber.

It’s no surprise that everyone is drawn to the craze of video game modifications. With TV series and movies featuring popular video game characters becoming huge hits recently, more people are jumping on the bandwagon by bringing their own stories to the big screen.

Of course, no video game character is as popular as platform-devouring plumber Mario, whose recent film adaptation grossed a staggering $1.36 billion worldwide, breaking numerous box office records.

It seems the success may have been shared with other Mario IPs as well, such as Nintendo Second quarter 2024 earnings report It has revealed its ripple effect.

The Super Mario Bros. movie has seen a spike in sales for many games.

Nintendo managed to sell 6.22 million units of Mario games after the release of the Super Mario Bros. movie in April through September.

However, what makes this even more remarkable is the fact that most of the best-selling Mario games have been available for some time. Instead of a surplus of new units animated thanks to the likes of Super Mario Wonder, these sales have been spread across older games.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Fukuwara confirmed the effects of the Super Mario Bros. movie.

“In addition, the Super Mario Bros. movie, which was released in April, had a positive impact on sales of Mario-related games,” the president said in Nintendo Report.

These numbers also don’t include those for the aforementioned Super Mario Wonder game, which was released in October of this year. Super Mario Wonder has completely wowed fans and critics, with Dexerto giving it a score of 4 out of 5.

And with Super Mario Wonder already being one of the fastest-selling Mario games of all time, these numbers will likely continue to increase, showcasing the success Nintendo has achieved with its iconic character.
