Tragedy in the holiday paradise: A woman fell from a cruise ship from Mallorca. The search operation by boats and helicopters has so far failed.
A tragedy occurred on a cruise ship off the coast of Mallorca on Sunday night: a passenger fell into the sea 120 kilometers southeast of the island. This was reported by Mallorca Magazine. The woman subsequently disappeared.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. aboard the Asmara Quest cruise ship. The captain informed the operational management of the Marine Rescue Service in Palma de Mallorca that a middle-aged woman had fallen into the sea. Thus the passengers on the plane observed the incident and informed the staff.
Search failed
The search operation launched by boats and helicopters has so far not yielded results. “Our helicopters have been searching for her all night, including the cruise ship and one of our rescue ships,” a Coast Guard spokesman said on Spanish television. “The passing hours, the temperature of the water and the fact that the missing woman fell into the sea without any floating equipment dampened any hope of finding her alive.”
Nothing is known about the identity of the woman. The reasons for her falling into the sea are not yet clear. The “Azamara Quest” departed from Barcelona for an eight-day voyage. The itinerary includes Malaga and Casablanca.
