NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 GPU won’t cost much more than the RTX 4090 as suggested by Copy7chemy In response to recent rumours.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU will be expensive but recent pricing rumors are a bit exaggerated
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 will be among the launch lineup of next-gen RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs that will make their official debut at CES 2025. So far, only high-level configurations and specifications have been revealed. The RTX 5090 in particular looks very attractive compared to the RTX 4090 with 32GB of VRAM and over 21k cores, but these specifications have also sparked speculation and rumors about a possible price hike and some exaggerated claims.
Rumors earlier this week claimed that NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 would cost up to $2,500 while the RTX 5080 would cost over $1,000. These are all guesswork and bad for good reason. What I can say is that no AIB or partner has been made aware of the “official” or even expected price for the next generation kit.
NVIDIA keeps its partners updated on SKUs, configurations, and specifications but nothing else. In the current time frame, AIBs and their partners will see the blueprint presented by NVIDIA and come up with their own PCB and cooling solutions, and after that, pricing will be finalized and this is usually close to launch after NVIDIA comes up with its MSRPs. Why is MSRP important? Well, NVIDIA typically focuses on MSRP models since that’s what their Founders Edition builds will be priced and initial reviews should be based on MSRP models. Non-MSRP models are designs where AIBs and partners can go all out with custom PCBs and innovative GPU cooling solutions.

From one of our sources inside a Taiwan-based factory that produces cooling equipment for NVIDIA, we’re told that the Green Team has at least 8 different coolers designed for their “FE” reference models. We can’t say for sure if these are final models or prototypes but it does give us an idea of when the final BOM will be made.
I don’t think there will be a significant price increase for the RTX 5090.

Coming back to the prices, even Kopite7kimi, one of the most respected lakes in the tech scene, points out that the latest prices are completely “fake”. He states that he doesn’t think the price of the RTX 5090 will see a significant increase over the RTX 4090 which had an MSRP of $1599 even though it currently retails for around $1800+ and will be discontinued soon to make room for future models.
No pricing for the RTX 50 GPUs has been shared with any partner.

We’ve also confirmed that most AIBs are currently trying to push as much RTX 40 stock as possible so we can expect a discounting spree this coming holiday season, especially on the RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4070 SUPER cards.
I won’t reveal pricing rumors but the last big price increase on a card as extreme as the ’90’ series was the RTX 3090 which was priced at $1500 and the follow-up ‘Ti’ variant was priced at $1999. we. The RTX 4090 ended up being 60-80% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti but the price compared to the previous 90’s GPU still saw a $100 bump. We might see a similar rise or we might get an RTX 5090 at the same $1,599 price point, who knows? But rest assured, it would be wise for gamers or those eyeing the RTX 5090 graphics card not to put too much faith in the current pricing rumors and just wait for the official confirmation.
