Amazon’s latest Prime Day deals are underway, which means the company is announcing a slew of discounts on computers across its stores. As usual, most of these discounts aren’t great. But if you’re in need of a new laptop, we’ve taken a look at what you’re looking for, scoured the price records, and rounded up the Prime Day laptop deals that might actually be worth your attention below.

In general, Amazon isn’t the best place to buy laptops, as it doesn’t allow you to specify the exact specifications of your machine. Most of the time, it’s easier to buy directly from the manufacturer. However, the sale has brought the prices of a few MacBooks, gaming laptops, and other laptops we recommend to their lowest levels yet.

Just remember that you’ll need to be a Prime subscriber to take advantage of some of the deals. Prime Day runs through July 17, and we’ll update this guide with more worthwhile discounts as they emerge.

Last MacBook Air The 13-inch MacBook Pro is down to $1,249 for the version with Apple’s M3 chip, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. That’s a fresh drop, about $150 less than the laptop’s usual price in recent months and $250 less than Apple’s list price. Just be sure to clip the $50 coupon on the page to get the full discount at checkout.

The MacBook Air M3 earned a score of 90 in our review earlier this year, and it’s now the top recommendation overall in our guide to the best laptops. It ticks almost all the boxes for those who prefer macOS to Windows: a thin, premium-feeling chassis, a comfortable keyboard and trackpad, a sharp, color-accurate display, more than enough battery life to get through a typical workday, and decent speakers and speedy performance for most things people do with a laptop. It’s even capable of running more demanding games, albeit at lower settings most of the time. This latest model can also power two external displays, but only when its lid is closed. We’d still like to see more than two USB-C ports, and the whole thing can still get a little warm under particularly heavy workloads. But for most people in the market for a mainstream laptop, it’s hard to do better.

If you only need a laptop for the basics, Basic model The MacBook Air M3 with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD is selling for $849 after using an on-page coupon. That’s $150 less than the regular price of the device on Amazon and another new low.

This version has most of the strengths mentioned above, but it will start to feel underpowered if you multitask on a regular basis. We recommend buying the higher-spec model if your budget allows it, as this model will hold up better in the short and long term.

the 15 inch version Meanwhile, the MacBook Air is on sale for a new low of $1,449 after a $50 coupon. That’s $250 off Apple’s list price and about $150 less than the average street price for this model over the past few months. The discount applies to the configuration with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.

If you can live with less memory and storage, Basic model This product is on sale for $1,049, which is another low number.

The larger Air is nearly identical to the 13-inch model, with the same chipset and port selection, but it has a larger screen and a slightly more spacious speaker system. If you’re willing to give up some portability for a better media editing or video streaming experience, it might be worth the extra cost. We gave it a review score of 90 in March.

the Latest generation MacBook Air Buying a MacBook Pro with Apple’s M2 chip isn’t a huge discount from the latest model, so it might be worth it if you just want a MacBook for casual tasks. The price is now down to $799 for the 13-inch model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, its lowest price yet and $50 less than the street price we’ve seen on Amazon for most of the past few months. Compared to buying directly from Apple, that’s a $200 drop. 512GB version There’s also a $200 storage option available for $999.

We gave the MacBook Air M2 a review score of 96 when it arrived in mid-2022. Its hardware is nearly identical to the M3 model, so you still get a great design with a comfortable keyboard, clear display, and long battery life. Its chip is a bit less powerful, especially in terms of graphics performance, and it can’t drive two external displays. The storage drive in this M2 model is technically Much slower This unit also doesn’t quite beat the one in the base M3 Air, so it’s less ideal if you plan on occasionally transferring large gigabyte-sized files. Overall, we’d still recommend doubling up on memory and storage if possible. But if you’re on a budget and don’t plan on wearing out your laptop, this unit is a decent value.

the 14 inch macbook pro With the Apple M3 Pro chip, 18GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, the device is available for $1,699. This offer technically went live two weeks ago, but it still matches the lowest price we’ve seen, and is $100 less than the laptop’s usual price on Amazon. Apple normally sells this configuration for $1,999.

The latest MacBook Pros are more laptops than most people need, but they’re worth it for media editors, 3D designers, or other professionals who want to trade the MacBook Air’s nimbleness for more power, a richer, faster mini-LED display, and extra ports. They’re heavier—this 14-inch version weighs 3.5 pounds—but they’re still exceptionally well-built, and can handle almost any workload you throw at them. We gave both the 14- and 16-inch versions a 90-point review score late last year. Note that we specifically recommend configurations with the M3 Pro (or M3 Max) chip; there’s a less expensive 14-inch model that uses the standard M3 chip, but that’s hard to justify over the Air.

With all these MacBook deals, it’s worth remembering that Apple has already released the new M4 series of chips, so it’s only a matter of time before we see updated Macs. According to a report earlier this year from BloombergMark GormanThe new MacBook Pros could arrive by late 2024 or early 2025, while the new MacBook Airs could arrive sometime next spring. If you’re not in a rush to buy a new Pro, it might be worth the wait. But the current models won’t slow down anytime soon, so these are still good deals if you’re looking to upgrade now.

A copy of Acer Aspire 5 15 Slim With a 15.6-inch 1080p display, Intel Core i5-13420H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, it’s down to $450 on Prime Day. That’s $80 off the regular price for this model and the lowest price we’ve seen in history.

Full disclosure: We haven’t reviewed this particular version, but it’s an upgraded version of our top pick in our guide to the best cheap Windows laptops. Don’t expect a particularly vibrant display or premium hardware (they’re mostly made of plastic), but we’ve found the Aspire 5 line to be reasonably well-made in the past, and the internals here should provide solid performance for everyday use. You’ll also get a protective case. While it’s hard to get excited about any cheap laptop, this should be a good fit if you can’t afford to spend $500.

The biggest potential issue with this configuration is that it lacks a USB-C port; instead, it uses a DC jack alongside two USB-A ports and an HDMI port. If you need that, Another version of Aspire 5 This model with the Intel Core i7-1355U processor seems like a good value at $570. That’s about $180 off. This model also includes a 1080p webcam and Wi-Fi 6E support, while the cheaper version is limited to a 720p webcam and Wi-Fi 6 support. You may have to put up with some unnecessary software preinstalled on either device.

Moving on to gaming laptops, Alienware m18 r2 The device is available for $2,380 for a configuration with a 165Hz QHD+ (2560 x 1600) display, an Intel Core i9-14900HX chip, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. That’s not cheap, but it’s $420 off the standard price of the device and the first major discount we’ve found for this model.

The m18 R2 2024 Edition is one of our top 18-inch picks in our guide to the best gaming laptops. As the term “18-inch gaming laptop” suggests, it’s a big machine, measuring about 1.05 inches thick and weighing nearly nine pounds. Plus, it has a battery that lasts about 4-5 hours on a full charge. nothing For gaming, it’s more of a desktop replacement than a truly portable thing. Still, it’s well-built for what it is, with a sturdy aluminum case, a smooth hinge, and a wide array of ports. More importantly, it can easily run modern AAA games at higher settings at 1080p or 1440p. Its memory and storage are also user-upgradable, though its screen could be a little brighter. Just note that this configuration includes a membrane keyboard—Dell also sells a Copy With low-profile mechanical keys – and like most laptops in this class – the device can get a bit hot and noisy when pressed.

If you want to spend a little less, Another configuration With a Core i7-14700HX chip, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 4070 GPU, it’s on sale for $1,880. That’s another all-time low and about $385 less than the average street price of the machine recently. However, this version will have a tough time with the more demanding fare of the 4080 model, especially when gaming at 1440p. So you may need to dial down the graphics settings in some games to reach consistently high frame rates. Technically, it also has fewer storage upgrade slots.

the Razer Blade 15 With an Intel Core i7-13800H processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, it’s on sale for $1,600. That’s the lowest price we’ve seen for this configuration and $100 less than its street price over the past two months. This model includes a 15.6-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio display with a 1440p resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate.

The Blade 15 is our “premium” recommendation in our gaming laptop buying guide. It’s been out for over a year at this point, and even with this discount, it’s not quite as good as our overall top pick (the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, which isn’t part of the Amazon sale). Instead, you’ll get the Blade for its design, which features clean lines and a durable all-black aluminum finish. (It does attract fingerprints, though.)

This configuration is powerful enough to run modern AAA games at 1080p or 1440p — again, the latter may require you to crank up the settings in certain games to see very high frame rates — and it comes with a good selection of ports. You can also upgrade the storage and memory. It can get warm, and battery life isn’t great, but it’s at least a little more attractive at this price if you want a 15-inch gaming machine and care about the look and feel of your laptop.

There are also several other Razer Blade models available for sale, although they aren’t cheap. 2024 Blade 14 With the Ryzen 9 8945HS chip and 32GB of RAM, the price is $200 less, for example, but that only brings the price down to $2,500. The latest version of Blade 16 It’s down to $2,599, while the 18-inch version Blade 18 It’s still priced at $2,800 after the Prime Day discount.
