Subaru has confirmed its plans to debut its Ascent 3-row crossover at this year’s LA Auto Show, on Nov. 28, 2017. The upcoming SUV will replace the company’s last 7-seater which was Tribeca, and will go on sale next year most likely as the 2019 model.
Not much has been revealed about the forthcoming Subaru Ascent, barring a teaser that shows just a part of the tailgate. However, a concept unveiled during this year’s New York Auto Show gives us a fairly good idea about what’s in store. It appears the SUV will be huge, as it’ll offer three rows of seating equipped to accommodate 7 passengers.
The automaker has also confirmed that the Ascent will feature a wheelbase of 117-inches, around 9-inches longer the Outback. The SUV overall length will be 198 inches, again 9-inches more compared to the Outback. Given its sheer size, the Ascent should offer plenty of room for all passengers in all three rows.
Another big change with the SUV will be the arrival of an all-new engine developed at Subaru. Under the hood, the Ascent will get powered by an all new turbo charged engine. It’ll be a 2.4 litre engine featuring 4 cylinders placed Subaru’s proprietary horizontally-opposed layout. Not to mention, the engine will feature direct injection and obviously, send power to all four wheels.
Subaru also stated that the SUV will be built at the company’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The same plant where other popular models are built which include Legacy, Outback, as well as the latest Impreza model.
Subaru discontinued production of the Tribeca SUV back in 2014, the automaker’s last 7-seater. Now, the Ascent is set enter a rather crowded category and will compete against the likes of Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota Highlander, Volkswagen Atlas, and more. More information about the 2019 Subaru Ascent will be announced on November 28, at the 2017 LA Auto Show. Until then, keep checking this space for more updates.
