Sources said the Texans are signing WR Robert Woods to a two-year deal

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have agreed to a contract with wide receiver Robert Woods, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

Sources said Texas signed Woods to a two-year contract worth $15.25 million with a $10 million full guarantee. The maximum contract potential is $17 million.

Last season, Woods caught 53 passes for 527 yards with two touchdowns for the Tennessee Titans. The Titans acquired him in March 2022 via a 2023 trade in the sixth round to the Los Angeles Rams.

Woods, 30, was released on Feb. 22 to help the Giants earn the salary cap, making him eligible to be signed by any team before free agency next week.

Prior to playing for the Titans, Woods suffered a torn ACL in November 2021 and worked his way back from injury to play in all 17 games of last season.

Woods is a 10-year veteran who played for the Buffalo Bills, Rams and Titans. He has 623 catches for 7,604 yards and 37 touchdowns in his career. He has two 1,000+ yard seasons, both coming with the Rams (2018 & 19).

The signing gives the Texans a potential replacement if they decide to transfer wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who requested a trade at deadline last season. League sources told ESPN that Cooks, who finished the season as the Texans’ leading receiver (669 yards), still favored the trade.

Texas coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio discussed the future of NFL scouting chefs last week.

“I would say we’re kind of involved in the team building process here,” Caserio said. “Every player, every individual situation we’re going to look at. Then, ultimately, we’re going to do what’s best for the team and the organization moving forward.”

The issue with a potential trade involving the cooks is that his $18 million salary is fully guaranteed. But Ryans got involved in a discussion with Cooks and “would love working with him”.

“I’ve talked to Brandine, and that process is going to have to come to fruition,” Ryans said. “We will do our best for our team.”
