The PS5 release date would be announced by Sony in the near future. It has been rumoured that Sony will add some killer features to the upcoming PS5, which could help in beating rivals such as Nintendo and Xbox and might raise the new product to the top of the sales charts.
The currently available Sony consoles are performing well in the market. Many new games are also lined up to launch on PS4 and PS4 Pro in the year 2018. Though Sony is doing enough to be the leading brand in the console market, there are other rivals to contend with in future. Both the PS4 and Xbox One came in late 2013, implying a generational shift which approaching soon.
While most analysts predicting that the release date of PS5 would not arrive until about 2020, there are others who believe something could be soon announced. There have been reports of PS 5 devkits being already sent out to the third-party developers that could be good news for the fans hoping for a sooner announcement. But while the wait continues for the next big news to drop there has been some indications on what may be included with the PS5.
Both Nintendo and Microsoft would be looking for bigger shares of the console market moving forward, so Sony would be looking to expand on their successes of PS4. The recent reports suggest that there are some key areas they might focus on. One being the PlayStation Plus subscription service that has witnessed some top games announced for it in the recent months. Bloodborne appearance certainly shows that Sony is looking to extend AAA games to the fans that spend money on the service per month.
2017 Sony Corporate Strategy meeting shed more light on the future plans of the company that appear to include a boost to the PS Plus service. The Sony management spoke more on the matter, revealing their want to make PlayStation Plus a more propelling prospect to the fans to subscribe to. These changes would be deployed to help increase subscriber figures that apparently include 26.4 million PS Plus-paying members and more than 70m active monthly users. While Sony did not go into a deep-dive on the matter, their want to enhance the content offered through PlayStation Plus was mentioned.
It should even be noted that PS3 and PS Vita games are getting dropped from the official lineup of PS Plus games earlier in 2018, implying a shakeup of the service is on the cards. A way to increase PS Plus subscription service on the PS5 could be to make it possible to play the PS4 games on it. It just so happens that recently Sony Interactive Entertainment America updated a US patent that could indicate that the PS5 would be able to do just that. The patent seems like it was originally filed in the year 2015, a few years following the launch of the PS4. The PS4 could play only PS3 games through PlayStation Now service. But the patent has been updated to tell- “backward compatibility testing of software in a mode that disrupts timing.”
