SDSU Women Advance to the WNIT . Championship

BROOKINGS, SD (KELO) – The SDSU Women took a 62-59 win over UCLA Thursday night, to advance to their first-ever WNIT Championship.

This Saturday, SDSU will host Seton Hall at the WNIT Championship. Tip is set off at 2 pm

In front of a large crowd, the Jackrabbits scored a victory that lasted until the last minute of the match.

Both offenses were tough early on as the first few minutes saw a 4-4 match.

The contest was tied at 12 late in the first game, until a late foul awarded UCLA three free throws. They were taking advantage of this money and taking 15-12 reins after another.

The second quarter saw the continuation of the offensive struggle.

UCLA scored just ten points in the quarter, but it looks like their lead will hold up until the last second sequence of events.

Bruyne’s opponent Payton Burkhard blocked in a quick break. Tylee Irwin grabbed the bouncing ball, ran across the floor and finished off the hoop and hit the bell.

SDSU led 27-25 in the first half.

The third quarter saw another tight fight, but UCLA used 6-0 to lead. SDSU will close out the strong quarter as Haleigh Timmer throws tie the game at 40 with only ten minutes to play.

The Jacks spin that in a 10-1 run, but the Bruins hit it back 4-0 to make it one game at 46-45.

The match returned back and forth in the last two minutes, with each team hitting the lead.

With less than a minute to play, Haleigh Timmer tied a 15-foot hitch to the front.

Jacks led 60-58 with 38 seconds to play.

Two free throws from Tori Nelson will give them a 62-59 lead. Followed by a defensive stop, the Jackrabbits took a 62-59 win over UCLA.

They’re heading into their first ever WNIT Championship!
