The Galaxy S8 and its larger sibling, the Galaxy S8 Plus have been a massive success, both in terms of performance and sales. To a certain extent, they’ve certainly brought that excitement back in smartphones. That said, some users still like their phones small and compact, something that does not feel too big in the hand and slides easily into the pocket. And if you find the Galaxy S8 range too big, then Samsung might have something in store especially for you. At least that’s what some sources suggest.
If the latest rumor is to be believed, Samsung is apparently working on the Galaxy S8 Mini, a compact-sized version of its Galaxy S8 flagship. To recall, Samsung stopped manufacturing miniature models of its flagship devices since the Galaxy S5. But it appears Samsung might get back in the game with a smaller Galaxy S8. While we are yet to hear an official confirmation from Samsung. But for now, a marketing poster is doing rounds on the web which shows the Galaxy S8 Mini with the original Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
Here’s all you need to know about the rumored Galaxy S8 Mini based on the latest leaks, reports, and other rumors.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini Design
Going by the leaked images, the Galaxy S8 Mini will rock a similar design language as its flagship counterparts. Chinese website IT Home has posted a leaked image which shows three smartphones, out of which the smallest of the lot is likely the rumored Galaxy S8 Mini. All smartphones in the leaked image look rather identical.
Hence, the Galaxy S8 Mini will likely retain the same premium design as its flagship counterparts. That said, the smaller form factor should make it all the more comfortable for one-handed usage.
Galaxy S8 Mini Specifications
Reports suggest the Galaxy S8 Mini will feature a 5.3-inch bezel-free display. Now that’s quite a lot of screen real estate to be called a compact version of the flagship. That said, it’ll feel like a 4.7-inch phone as it would feature an extra wide aspect ratio of 18:5:9. All in all, the smaller screen size should make the Galaxy S8 Mini much more of a snug fit in the hand than its standard counterparts.
In terms of specs, the device is said to get powered by the Snapdragon 821 processor as opposed to the Snapdragon 835. Elsewhere, it is expected to offer 4GB of RAM alongside 32GB of built-in storage with microSD support up to 256GB.
As far as the camera goes, it’ll retain the same 12MP primary camera found on its larger siblings coupled with an Iris scanner. For selfies, there’ll be an 8MP front-facing camera. However, there’s no mention whether it’ll feature Samsung’s in-house virtual assistant Bixby.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini Release Date
Little is known about the Galaxy S8 Mini apart from the leaked image which appears to be a marketing material. For now, it’s anyone’s guess at the moment. But if the Galaxy S8 Mini is being manufactured then we’d expect it to be announced by the end of the calendar year 2017. Samsung could even drop a bomb by launching it alongside the upcoming Galaxy Note 8, sometime around IFA 2017.
