Samsung announced two variants of the Galaxy S7 during the MWC 2016 event. The phone is a culmination of power, elegant design and Samsung’s brilliance. Both the smartphones are available to purchase online and in retail stores. Here’s a quick specs and features comparison of both Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones.

The smaller version, the Samsung Galaxy S7 houses a 5.1” display screen while the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5” display screen. Both screens have similar screen resolutions with support for up to 16M colors. The screen on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, however, is fashioned to flow on the side edges of the phone and hence the apt name. A close look will tell you that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is just a tad bit larger than the Galaxy S7 and is, in fact, thinner than the Galaxy S7.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 measures 7.9 mm in thickness and weighs 152 grams. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, on the other hand, is 0.2 mm thinner measuring 7.7 mm and weighs only 5 grams more than the Galaxy S7 at 157 grams.

The only noticeable difference between the two versions is their battery, where the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes along with a 3,000mAh battery which is powerful, and the Galaxy S7 Edge comes along with a 3,600mAh battery which gives you an extra edge in times of need.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy 7S Edge come with the same processors and CPU configuration. Depending on the geography, Samsung will either employ a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with an Adreno 530 GPU kit or an Exynos 8890 chipset with a Mali-T880 MP12 GPU kit.

Regardless of the CPU and the GPU, both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge come along with a 4GB RAM and are available with the option of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage to pick from.

The back of the phones has a 12MP auto-focus lens that has improved-low-light photography. The front face of the phones has a 5MP camera for video calls or selfies. The cameras on both variants use Dual-Pixel technology serving with one of the quickest auto-focus capabilities compared with other smartphones. The camera app also sports a ‘Pro’ mode, which allows you better control over photography by letting you toggle shutter speed, exposure, ISO, resolution and video frame rate.

Samsung has also introduced the feature of ‘motion panorama’, something that is very similar to their ‘motion photos’ feature where you can take live panoramic recordings and save them as .gif files.

A new technology called three-channel aggregation has been introduced into the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which boosts network data transfers by 50%. Other lab tests have also proven that the Qualcomm-based Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices perform faster and better than Apple’s phones running on their latest A9 chips.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are available to buy for $672 and $792 respectively.
