Samsung finally launches the Galaxy S8 Active smartphone in the US, a shockproof alternative to the standard Galaxy S8 model. For now, the smartphone is being listed as an AT&T exclusive and is available for pre-order on AT&T Next. That being said, it’ll soon be available on other carriers as well when it finally arrives in stores on August 11.

As already mentioned, the Galaxy S8 Active is more or less similar to the standard Galaxy S8 model. The primary difference being that it features a shockproof housing that makes it robust and rugged, giving it the ability to survive in extreme weather conditions and environments. The handset has cleared military grade MIL-STD-810G tests. Not to forget, the handset is also rated to survive 5 feet under water for a period of up to 30 minutes.

As far as specs go, the Galaxy S8 Active features a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. Under the hood, it runs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor bundled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy S8 Active packs a 12MP primary camera with LED flash, auto-focus, OIS, along with 8x digital zoom. For selfies, the smartphone features an 8MP front-facing shooter. While juicing up the smartphone is a 4000mAh battery, which is rated to deliver 32 hours of talk time, 5 days of standby time, along with 113 hours of audio playback.

In terms of dimensions, the handset measures 151.8 mm x 74.93 mm x 9.9 mm and weighs-in at 208 grams.

Currently, the Galaxy S8 Active is open for pre-orders only on AT&T Next for $28.34 for a period of 30 months.
