It was Elizabeth’s favourite |
Harry was late
His eyes drooped and the corners of his mouth turned down…
The face of Prince Harry, 37, speaks volumes as his car pulls up at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The Duke of Sussex arrived at his grandmother’s deathbed around 9pm German time – an hour and a half after the palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II (96).
In the afternoon, Elizabeth’s beloved grandson rushes by plane from London to Aberdeen to be with his family at this difficult time. But Harry was too late.
He misses the moment the Queen takes her last breath and her father becomes King Charles III at Balmoral. (73) Will. His brother William (40), his corrupt uncle Andrew (62), Prince Edward (58) and Princess Anne (72) had already arrived in the afternoon.
It is not clear whether the queen is already dead at this point. At 7:31pm German time (6:31pm local time), the palace announced that Elizabeth had passed away peacefully in the afternoon.
For Harry, it was a bittersweet day. The prince and his wife Duchess Meghan, 41, have broken with the royal family – but he has always been very close to his grandmother.
In fact, he should be giving a speech tonight at the “Well Child Awards” in London, which honor disabled children and their carers every year. But when he learned how bad things had become with his grandmother that afternoon, he dropped everything.
There is at least one consolation for Harry: in early June, the family, which was actually very divided, sat down at a table for Elizabeth’s throne anniversary. There, the queen was finally able to meet Lilibeth (1), the daughter of her favorite grandson. Harry gave her the Queen’s surname. So Elizabeth remains a part of the family even after her death.
