CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made a series of roster moves Tuesday to reach the 53-man roster limit.

While there are some notable names on the list, including wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., it’s important to note that the remaining 53 players should not be considered a final list.

The Panthers are first in the waiver claim standings and are expected to use that in the coming days to bring in players who were waived today.

As expected, the Panthers left offensive lineman Jonathan Brooks on the reserve/non-football injury list, and midfielders DJ Wonom and Amari Barno on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. That means all three will be out for at least the first four weeks of the season.

They also placed defensive back Dan Jackson and safety Sam Franklin Jr. on the injured reserve list with return designations, meaning they can return this season. In the past, teams had to carry players through the cuts to 53 if they wanted them back from the injured list, but the rule was changed this year to allow two players on the roster today. Teams can designate a maximum of eight players to return from the injured list over the course of the year. You can read a full explanation of the rules here.

Midfielder Ty Davis and outside midfielder Cam Gill have been placed on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season.

Among the veterans released Tuesday were running back Mike Boone and quarterback Jordan Matthews.
