Nvidia launches $1,999 GeForce RTX 3090 Ti

Nvidia is releasing the $1,999 GeForce RTX 3090 Ti today. after fuzzy delay Following the January announcement, the “fastest GPU on the planet” from Asus, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galax, Gigabyte, INNO3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zotac will be available in stores today. Nvidia has also created a limited edition Founders Edition panel that will be available from Best Buy online.

RTX 3090 Ti is our familiar 3-slot design Seen on RTX 3090At first glance, both cards look identical. Nvidia is really maximizing what the current 8nm GA102 chip is capable of inside the RTX 3090 Ti, pairing it with 24GB of GDDR6X running at 21GB/s. This is the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 3090 but with a 7.7 percent faster memory clock resulting in a total memory bandwidth of 1,008 GB/s.

Nvidia says the RTX 3090 Ti will also include 40 teraflops of GPU performance, with a base clock of 1,560MHz, and a boost clock of 1,860MHz. That’s a 36 teraflops bump on the RTX 3090, and the base clock is 1395MHz, and 1695MHz boosts clock speeds. The RTX 3090 TI also includes 10752 CUDA cores, 78 RT-TFLOPs, and 320 Tensor-TFLOPs.

In terms of gaming performance, Nvidia claims that the RTX 3090 Ti will be on average 64 percent faster than the RTX 2080 Ti, and 9 percent faster than the RTX 3090. While Nvidia heavily marketed the RTX 3090 at 8K gaming at its launch, the company is putting the RTX The 3090 Ti is truly a niche for creators, professionals, and anyone else who really wants the fastest GPU for gaming or creative tasks.

The RTX 3090 Ti is designed for large projects within applications such as Blender, Maya, or Cinema4D, or for research systems for data scientists using large data sets. Developers and CG animators working with large sets, high-resolution textures, and detailed models may also find the RTX 3090 Ti useful for certain projects.

The real trade-offs here will be price and power requirements. The RTX 3090 Ti starts at $1,999, which means we’ll see plenty of partner boards crossing the $2,000 mark. It’s the first time we’ve seen a GeForce “gaming” card at nearly $2,000 retail, though the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 cards have been trading at these kinds of prices throughout 2021.

The RTX 3090 Ti will also have some huge power requirements. You’ll need a power supply capable of delivering 850 watts minimum, the card uses up to 450 watts (with some boards potentially exceeding that). This is higher than the 350 watt draw of the RTX 3090 and 750 watt power supply requirements. Nvidia has also ditched its 12-pin connector in favor of the 16-pin PCIe Gen5 power cable. Most power supplies do not ship with the original cables for this, so Nvidia is supplying a dongle that requires three 8-pin connectors.

Pricing will naturally turn many away from the RTX 3090 Ti, especially for gaming since it’s a 30 percent increase over the RTX 3090 with promises of just 9 percent of performance. However, if you want the bragging rights of owning the “world’s fastest graphics card,” Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is now available for a starting price of $199.
