On January 29, director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed on Instagram that Millie Alcock has been cast as Supergirl in his revamp of the DC franchise.
“This is accurate,” James wrote in an Instagram post that included a screenshot Deadline article On Millie's choice. “Mellie is a fantastically talented young actress and I am so excited for her to be a part of the DCU. Yes, I was first introduced to her in House of the Dragon but have been blown away by the diverse casting and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as portrayed by @tomking_tk, @bilquis, and Ana Nogueira.
He later shared his post to his Instagram Story, writing: “Welcome to the DCU, Millie Alcock!”
Millie is best known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen Dragon House.
She will play the lead role in the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In November, James V Instagram share That Ana Nogueira wrote the screenplay. “We're excited to move forward with this unique story for Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning story,” James wrote in part.
Deadline reports that it's uncertain whether Millie will appear as a character in the future Superman: Legacy Film starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent.
Sasha Calle most recently played the superhero in last year's film the light.
Melissa Benoist played Supergirl in the Arrowverse series of the same name from 2015 to 2021.
Laura Vandervoort took on the character in the TV series Smallvilleappeared from 2007 to 2011.
Helen Slater starred in the 1984 film Supergirl.
