For the second time in three years, the Jets will search for an offensive coordinator.
Team and Mike Lafleur parted ways after two seasons together, According to Brian Costello of The Post. New York – which is allowing Lafleur to pursue other opportunities – will begin its process on Thursday.
It’s been a rocky year for the Jets and their offense, a unit that has faltered throughout the year amid injuries and inconsistencies with Zach Wilson and Mike White. Joe Flacco started four games, including the season finale.
The New York offense has not scored a touchdown in its last three games, losing to Jacksonville, Seattle, and Miami. His 17.4 points per game average was fourth lowest in the NFL.
After hiring Robert Saleh, head coach LaFleur brought with him from the 49ers, where he had previously served as the passing game coordinator at San Francisco. New York then drafted Zack Wilson out of BYU with the No. 2 pick and placed him at the future quarterback position.
But the Jets only finished 4-13 in 2021, as Wilson missed time with a PCL injury.
The Jets finished 7-10 in 2022 — closing the year on a six-game losing streak and losing seven of their last eight games — and their offense was splayed behind quarterback inconsistencies and a season-ending injury to rookie running back Bryce Hall. They benched Wilson, lost White to an injury and had to start Wilson again anyway.
