Deadpool & Wolverine has cemented itself as a short-lived entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but not everything Marvel Studios told fans about the crossover was true.
This comes from executive producer Wendy Jacobson, who hinted that fans may have more surprises in store during an interview with Radar+ gamesWhile fans have combed through the details for hints of connections to the larger MCU plan or even additional crossovers with existing X-Men universes, it turns out some efforts may have been in vain.
Marvel has gone to great lengths to keep some of its best surprises a secret, the producer says, explaining: “There may or may not have been some misdirection or trickery online or in person to protect secrecy.”
It’s a comment that would surely send internet sleuths into a frenzy as they question some of the information we’ve learned about Deadpool & Wolverine over the past few years. One particularly suspicious example is Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut. Jones warned earlier this year that He will not appear in the movie. Due to some personal grudge he held against the original suit of the mega-villain. Fans were then stunned when, months later, The trailer appears to feature his character..
Other characters believed to have appeared include: Lady Deadpool and Cowboy Deadpoolwith many believing that Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wife, Blake Lively, will play her. Fans had previously speculated that Taylor Swift would play her before Entertainment Weekly A report was written about it. The singer had a small role in the film..James Marsden the giant, Professor XAnd Jennifer Garner Electra These are just a few examples of other characters that fans have linked to as potential candidates to appear as Deadpool and Wolverine.
Jacobson doesn’t go so far as to spoil any surprises but promises that every character included in this week’s MCU release plays an important role in the narrative.
“I can’t confirm or deny any cameos in this film, but I will say that in terms of the characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this film felt like a gimmick,” says Jacobson. “Anyone who appears has an important purpose in the story or a beginning, middle and end to their character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process to figure out who fit in and who didn’t.”
Deadpool & Wolverine has used some sneaky tactics to keep its surprises in check ahead of its premiere this week, but it’s not the first Marvel movie to play with fan expectations. Spider-Man: No Way Home comes to mind as one of Marvel’s films that came out in 2011. He flat out lied to fans about some of the short scenes.That’s not to say the third Deadpool movie will have the level of jaw-dropping revelations as the 2021 release, but at this point, Marvel has clearly gotten better at keeping its secrets.
