Russia recently opposed the UN’s future treaty. Foreign Minister Lavrov is now declaring that his country sees no benefit in international relations with the West. America and Britain are responsible for this. But they won’t succeed, he says.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has clearly ruled out a resumption of international relations. “What kind of cooperation can we really talk about on a global scale when the West tramples on all the immutable values of globalization that we have been told from this lecture for years,” Lavrov told the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Most recently, Russia withdrew from the United Nations Futures Treaty, which should have actually been unanimously approved by the 193 UN members last Sunday.
At the same time, Lavrov categorically denied any responsibility of Russia for problems in the work of several United Nations bodies, such as the Security Council. “The blame for this lies squarely with the West,” he explained. “The unprecedented level of arrogance and aggressiveness of the Western policy towards Russia not only destroys the idea of global cooperation promoted by the UN Secretary General, but also increasingly hinders the functioning of the entire system of global governance, including the UN Security Council,” Lavrov continued.
Given Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Lavrov perceived a British-American conspiracy to destroy Russia. In 1945, secret plans were already intended to destroy the then Soviet Union. “But today’s Anglo-Saxon strategists do not hide their plans,” said Russia’s foreign minister. “They still hope to defeat Russia at the hands of the illegitimate neo-Nazi regime in Kiev, who are already preparing to plunge Europe into a suicidal adventure.”
In this context, he recalled the nuclear weapons of the Russian armed forces and “the futility and danger of the idea of trying to win with nuclear Russia.” Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin threatened to use nuclear weapons a few days ago. Accordingly, Putin said any conventional attack on Russia backed by nuclear power would be seen as a joint attack by these countries.
