Kyle Shanahan: Tre Lance did a good job blocking criticism

49ers quarterback Trey Lance has been subjected to some criticism in the national media following his performance against the Raiders in San Francisco’s season opener.

Given Lance’s draft status as the No. 3 overall pick in 2021 — who was traded for the 49ers — Lance’s performances will always be under a microscope. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that the quarterback understands that and wouldn’t let him get to it.

“Trey is very smart, very socially aware. He knows How does the world workShanahan said, via NBCSportsBayArea.com. “So, he’s doing his best – and I think he’s doing a very good job – [in] You try to prevent all of that and focus on getting better. I think that’s what he’s done so far.”

Shanahan also reiterated that as a top pick, heavy criticism goes to the area.

“She gets along with quarterbacks, she gets along with anyone who’s a high draft pick, but especially a quarterback,” Shanahan said. “That’s one of the tough things about this position but also high recruiting picks. I mean, you watch receivers come in the league and have a few drops early in camp and that becomes a huge pressure on them. People want to see these people go off and do it right away and have no flaws.” .And that’s just part of it.”

Lance is in a particularly difficult position because he suffered a season-ending injury just two games into his start as a starter last year. Then rookie Brock Purdy came in the seventh at last and led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, earning their spot in San Francisco’s QB1 going into 2023.
