Jerry Seinfeld's Pop-Tart origin story movie

Netflix has released the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming Pop-Tart movie “Unfrosted,” which is scheduled for release on May 3.

According to Netflix's Tudum, the tagline for Unfrosted reads: “Michigan, 1963. Arch-rivals in the cereal business, Kellogg's and Post, compete to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A story of ambition, betrayal, drunkenness, and menacing milkmen, starring the writer and director Jerry Seinfeld.

As Tudum admits on the official “Unfrosted” page, Seinfeld had been thinking about the Pop-Tart's origin story for years. For example, He explained his artistic vision in a 2018 post on X/Twitter: “At one point I was thinking of inventing the Pop Tart. Imagine being drunk on Kellogg's sugar-based cereal culture in the mid-1960s in Battle Creek, Michigan. That's the vibe I could work with.” He also pitched the idea in “The Late Show” in 2010.

In addition to Seinfeld, the cast includes plenty of comedy icons, including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, and Bobby Moynihan , Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper and Fred Armisen.

Seinfeld wrote the screenplay with Spike Feirstein, Barry Marder, and Andy Rubin. Seinfeld and Firestein are also producing in addition to Beau Bowman, under their Columbia 81 Productions banner. “Unfrosted” is Seinfeld's first feature film.

Before making his Pop-Tart dreams come true on Netflix, Seinfeld most recently starred in the 2020 stand-up comedy special “23 Hours to Kill.”
