Jay-Z released a different kind of public service announcement on the Internet Grammy Sunday night, criticizing the Recording Academy for its poor decision-making over the years, especially when it comes to Beyoncé and the Album of the Year category.

The 54-year-old rapper was accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, which was established last year – marking the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. In a wide-ranging speech, Jay-Z referenced Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff's boycott of an awards show in 1988 and his boycott after he was nominated for best rap album in 1998.

“DMX dropped two albums that year, and both of them went to No. 1 — shout out to DMX — and he wasn't nominated at all. So I boycotted it, and I watched the Grammy Awards. I'm just like, 'We want you all to do it.'” He said, “Get on with it.” the correct”.

Jay-Z's criticism of music's biggest night didn't end there. The 24-time Grammy Award winner has turned his attention to his wife, R&B star Beyoncé.

“I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she's won more Grammy Awards than anyone and she's never won Album of the Year. So, even by your own standards, this doesn't work,” Jay-Z said as cameras panned. Beyoncé stands in the audience. Winning Best Dance/Electronic Album for “Renaissance” at last year’s ceremony brought her total wins to 32. Most of the time.

But “Renaissance” lost the album of the year award to Harry Styles' “Harry's House.” Her previous solo album, “Lemonade,” lost to Adele’s “25” in 2017.

Adele, who looked visibly emotional as she held the award, said: “I cannot accept this award. I am very humbled, and I am very grateful and generous, but the artist of my life is Beyoncé.” “Lemonade was such a huge album, so thoughtful and so beautiful and soulful…and all the artists here, we adore you.”

Jay-Z ended his speech by encouraging viewers to keep showing up, whether at award shows or in life.

“You have to keep showing up. Until they give you all those accolades you think you deserve. Until they call you Chairman of the Board. Until they call you a genius. Until they call you the greatest of all time,” he concluded, raising a brow. Cup with a smile. “You feel me?”
