BOSTON – Members of alternative music band Jeans Addiction were seen fighting on stage during their show in Boston on Friday night.
The fight was caught on video.
It happened at the band’s concert at Leader Bank Pavilion. The video shows lead singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro shouting and confronting each other mid-song, pushing each other before Farrell throws a punch at Navarro. Another man then jumps in between them, breaking up the fight. The show then ends early.
“I think it reminds us of the classic rock mentality of being a bad boy and stuff. That mentality seems to have died out, and this kind of music refreshes people’s memories a lot,” one fan said.
“I’ve never seen anything like this at any other concert,” says Eoin O’Donnell, who was stunned by the video. “It’s just crazy, honestly.”
The video of the incident quickly spread across social media, with some fans speculating whether or not the band would break up.
Wife blames frustration
“Perry was getting more and more frustrated, night after night, feeling like the stage was too loud and the band was drowning out the sound,” Farrell’s wife, Ettie Lau Farrell, wrote in an Instagram post Saturday morning.
She said her husband had tinnitus and a sore throat, and “by the end of the song he wasn’t singing anymore, he was just screaming so people could hear him.” She added that her husband then broke down “and cried and cried.”
Jane’s Addiction, known for songs like “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing,” is on its first tour in 15 years. Their next scheduled show, scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was canceled via social media Saturday.
“We would like to sincerely apologize to our fans for the events that took place last night. As a result, we will be canceling our scheduled show in Bridgeport tomorrow,” Jeans Addiction announced on Facebook.
The band said refunds for Sunday’s show will be issued to ticket holders.
“I think if you buy a ticket to see Jeans Addiction, you’re taking advantage,” says Boston resident Rich Wade.
WBZ-TV reached out to concert organizer Live Nation for comment but did not receive a response.
