Apple is expected to announce its next gen iPhone range at its annual event in September. In advance of the expected announcement of the anniversary iPhone 8, a study has found some interesting bits about the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

As security research agency Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has found that current iPhone 7 models are most popular in the US, selling more than last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The study revealed that 48 million iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units are in circulation in the US as opposed to the 47 million units of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

“The newest iPhone models, 7 and 7 Plus, accounted for a much higher share of total iPhone sales in this quarter than the March 2017 quarter,” said Josh Lowitz, CIRP Partner and Co-Founder.

The research further reveals that out of the remaining 46 million iPhone units, 39 million units are of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, which happen to be the cheapest iPhone 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone for now. While the remaining 7 millions units are accounted for the 4-inch iPhone SE.

In addition, the latest study by CIRP further notes that sales of the smaller iPhone SE have witnessed a steady growth. As the iPhone SE now accounts for 6 percent of market share among all iPhone models in the US.

Also, the research suggests that plus-sized iPhone models are selling more than smaller iPhone counterparts. The reason being that app engagement is higher on large screen devices. Apps on the larger iPhone models are launched more often than the number of times they are opened on smaller devices.

Apple was initially hesitant, but the success of the iPhone 6 Plus marked the highest adoption rate compared to earlier iPhone models. And it appears Apple’s foray into larger screen models has been quite a success so far. As according to the latest findings by CIRP, sales plus-sized iPhone models have increased to 38 percent compared to 29 percent in the same period last year when Apple celebrated a billion iPhone sales.

Keeping that in mind, there’s a lot of hype surrounding Apple’ s upcoming iPhone range. Multiple reports in the past suggest that the rumored iPhone 8 will be unlike anything we’ve seen in the past. Apple’s next-gen iPhone is expected to feature substantial upgrades over the iPhone 7, including an all new design, OLED display, wireless charging, along with an upgraded camera and improved battery life.
