Evgeny Podupnyzh is one of the most famous faces of Russian propaganda. As a reporter he has already traveled to Georgia, Syria and Ukraine. A day after the start of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region, reports of his death are causing confusion. State television has denied this.

Well-known Russian propagandist Yevgeny Podupnyj was wounded in the Kursk region, not far from the Ukrainian border. VGTRK, the state television station where Poddubnyj works, said in a telegram that the reporter was injured in a Ukrainian drone strike and hospitalized. TV channel “Zvezda”, close to the Russian Defense Ministry, wrote in a telegram that Poddubnyj was alive but in “very serious condition”.

Earlier, several Russian media unanimously announced Poddubnyj’s death. A deputy of the Russian State Duma, Mikhail Delyakin, reported Podubnyzh’s death on Telegram, but pointed out that it was not official information.

Evgeny Podupnyj is one of the most famous Russian “war correspondents”. He travels to the war zone in Ukraine as a reporter. Poddubnyj has also reported on the Caucasus War and the Syrian War in the past. In 2013 he interviewed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for Russian state television. His Telegram channel has around 734,000 followers.

In Russia, Puddubnyj received several state awards. Among other things, he was awarded the Order of Reverie by Kremlin Chairman Vladimir Putin in 2014. He was a member of Putin’s campaign team for the 2018 and 2024 presidential elections.

Ukraine made a surprise incursion into Russia’s Kursk region on Tuesday, sparking public panic and forcing Moscow to send additional troops. Russian officials said Russia evacuated villages near the border as Ukrainian troops advanced in armored vehicles. According to media reports, fighting continues in the region. Ukraine has not yet commented on the attack.
