Humble drummer Jeremiah Greene dies at 45 of cancer

Humble drummer and co-founder Jeremiah Green passed away Saturday after his battle with cancer.

“It is with a very heavy heart that the Green and Namatami families announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother, Jeremiah Green,” Namatami said in a Facebook post.

“Jeremiah has been a light to many. At this time, the family is asking for privacy. More information will be made available soon including a celebration of life for friends and fans in the coming months. Jeremiah’s loved ones would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support.”

Green founded Modest Mouse along with lead singer Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Gowdy in 1992.

He performed with Modest Mouse until 2003, when he chose to leave the band. Green’s hiatus only lasted one year and he reunited with his bandmates in 2004.

After his death was announced, tributes poured in from across the music community, including a few former Modest Mouse members.

Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney said, “Rest in peace, Jeremiah.”

Green leaves behind his wife, Lorraine, and their son, Wilder.
